Abstract

This paper analyzes the way in which Newton introduces the concept of Universal Gravitation in Book III of the Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica, based on the mathematical results proved in the two first books and in the Phenomena and the Rules of Reasoning in Philosophy that Newton proposes at the beginning of Book III.
