Helical coils are used to produce compact fiber devices with stable polarization properties. We have developed a matrix model for such a fiber, taking into account effects of photoelastically induced anisotropy and geometrical phase, on residual birefringence and diattenuation. We present here the theoretical basis used to construct the model and experimental results that validate it.Downloads
