Abstract

Laser interferometry is used to analyze biological samples non-invasively before and after exposure to ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation. The objective is to ascertain the damage induced by this type of radiation by quantifying displacements across the entire surface of the samples. The analysis of those displacements, with a resolution of a few micrometers, is presented. Displacements are induced by applying a sound load to the sample with and without radiation. The results are displayed as fringe patterns and displacement maps, where changes caused by UVB radiation exposure can be observed. It was found that displacement values decrease and fringe patterns change slightly due to the radiation. Displacement data is useful as it is an indicator of the biological sample’s elasticity. This work contributes to the understanding of the impact of UVB irradiation on sample elasticity, which can be assessed non-invasively.
